SPU: Sightseeing and learning!

Hello, everyone! (And Happy 4th!) Kalie, here. It’s been an eventful first few days in St. Petersburg! While the team has been adjusting to the time change, we have also been roaming around the city and familiarizing ourselves with our new home for the next month. In the mornings we go through training, learning about the Russian history and the language, then sightseeing in the afternoon. Yesterday, we toured the Peter and Paul Fortress and stood along the Neva River, watching the boats float along in the rain. Within the fortress, we sat in modern architectural chairs that reminded us … Continue reading

SPU: Team arrived and ready to start!

Our first team for the summer has arrived safe and sound. The team from Seattle Pacific University will start their 4 week ministry with a 3 day training. Learning about the Russian history, language and culture is essential prior to starting ministry. By learning about the people, the students will be better equipped to serve the orphans and street children of Russia. Please pray that they get over jet lag quickly and soak in all of the information thrown at them these following days. Feel free to post comments and words of encouragement for the team.

Interns: Serving in Novgorod

Today we went on a boat ride with them and they were all so excited and mesmerized at the water and the boat. They loved it so much and it was so much fun experiencing … Continue reading

We just got back from our second session of camp and feel so blessed to have been a part of something so amazing. This week we worked with a 9 year old boy with autism and he stole our hearts. We were convinced by the fifth day that we were taking him back to America with us. This week was more difficult than the last because of the weather and our boy. What a sweet boy he was, but when he would get scared or upset he would have tantrums that were very hard to control. Helping him to calm … Continue reading

SPU and Interns: Final days of camp

With only a few days left of camp, it is with joy and sadness that the team and interns are getting ready to say goodbye. It has been such joy to get to know the teens who are physically or mentally disabled. For them, life is bleak without any future. In the Russia, if you are disabled then there is no hope for you. You are an outcast in society. Locked up in an orphanage or in your own small apartment. If wheelchair bound, you cannot go anywhere since there are no ramps and elevators do not always work. Most … Continue reading
