Why Do You Celebrate Easter?

Unfortunately not many people think about the true meaning of the holiday when they say to each other “Christos Voskres! Voistinu Voskres!” (“Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!”).

I believe that the holiday is meant to remind us of the important events that took place in history and about God’s character. This is why we went to the kids in orphanage “Podrostok” and the TB Children Center: to tell them about the true meaning of Passover. We asked them what they know about Easter and many of them said: eggs being colored, Paskha (Easter cake) being blessed and sanctified by church priests, and others remembered the words – “Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!”.

We told them what happened to Jesus that week, about His crucifixion and resurrection. We reminded the children that He became like us, so that we would become like Him; that He died for us, so that we wouldn’t die for our sins, that He rose from the dead. And, that we would have hope and live eternally in close relationship with Him.

In addition, we shared with them about the nation of Israel when they were in slavery in Egypt; about Passover and how God brought them out of Egypt. “The Day of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ” is a very joyful holiday around the world that brings hope to people. This is why we asked kids to make Easter cards that would not only remind them about the meaning of Easter, but also bring much joy. They did a good job in decorating each card.

The children got chocolate eggs with “Christ is Risen!” in Russian and some Easter cakes.

Thank you for investing in the lives of these precious children. They are eager to see some of you this summer.
