CBU: Starting the first day of camp

We safely arrived in Russia and have enjoyed immersing ourselves in the culture. On our flight here, we dealt with a few health problems such as upset stomachs, but everyone is healthy now. Upon arriving to St. Petersburg, we discovered that Lauren’s luggage, as well as one of our team bags, did not make the connecting flight. However, the next day we were pleasantly surprised to find it by our door. We started our team training and sightseeing and have been amazed at what we’ve learned so far. We’ve enjoyed training with the Vanguard team also serving in Russia at this time.

Our training has consisted of Russian language lessons, history, cultural norms and differences and prayer. We have all enjoyed our Russian language lessons and the opportunities to communicate with the natives. Our excursion on Friday began with a trip on the fast-paced Metro to the Spilled Blood Cathedral. We were all amazed at the beauty of the cathedral and St. Petersburg.

After a second morning of training on Saturday, we headed off to the Winter Palace and The Hermitage Museum. From there we were able to purchase some souvenirs and enjoyed a delicious traditional Russian dinner. Sunday began with a trip to a Russian Orthodox Church followed by our final day of training. We were sent out to the city in groups of four on a mission to speak the language, learn history and return with fruit. We had a great time on our adventure through the city on our own.

We are greatly looking forward to meeting the kids in the Transit Center today and have been preparing for this day with excitement. Our team looks forward to hosting a camp for the kids there and interacting with them. Please pray for many opportunities to share God’s love. Also, please pray for good health, unity and open hearts from the children. We all send our love back home; keep us in your prayers.
