Returning to Russia!
March 20, 2012 in SunErgos NEWS
Two volunteers are coming back this summer because they were changed through their mission trip last year! We are excited to see lives changed in the teams that come out each summer to partner with SunErgos.
Once again we will be serving at a camp for Disabled Youth, where the two volunteers will spend a month serving youth who are outcasts in the Russian society. You can read more about the Disabled under Who We Serve section of our website.
Here is what one of the volunteers said about being at the camp and returning this summer.
“I feel called to work with children with special needs. I was already pursuing a career in physical therapy, but never thought that I would even consider working with kids with disabilities until working at camp. Since returning from Russia, I have began volunteering with kids with disabilities at a therapeutic horse riding center, as well as an after school program here in Seattle. I can now confidently say that I feel that I am being called to a career involving physical therapy with children with disabilities. I believe that returning to camp will allow me to further develop this path towards my future vocation. I honestly feel that there is no better place to help these kids receive more movement in their bodies, as well as become healthier as we give them the opportunity to swim, walk on the beach, and play games to improve their motor coordination.”
Shannon Orr, a student at Seattle Pacific University, will be returning this summer to serve the disabled youth at our camp. We are excited to see God at work in her life through an experience that was difficult and stretching; where she wanted to give up and leave after the first day of camp last year.
