Priviet from across the globe!
Today is the second day at the Children Center and our spirits are high and our smiles are big. So far we have had two sessions with the kids. We work with the kids (ages 3-17) from 10am-1pm followed by a break and then back again from4pm-6pm. We start each session with a skit followed by a lesson, a craft and then games, games, games! The kids are full of energy and love; just awaiting a hand to hold. It is only the second day and we are already attached to each of the kids. We couldn’t have been blessed with a friendlier bunch. Desire told one of the older boys that she liked his watch and without a thought he took it off and offered her to have it. The idea that he was willing to give up one of the only things that he has makes you reflect your own life. They seem so thankful for everything and will do anything to make us smile.
During today’s lesson with the kids we split them up into two age groups. The older group really opened up and told some of their stories and asked from some help with the problems in their lives. It is interesting to see that they have similar struggles with friends and life as we do. The idea that we live in two completely different worlds and speak different languages does not hamper our ability to relate.
The younger kids however, didn’t hesitate to show us their energetic sides as we attempted to teach a lesson on “How to be a winner in life”. But nonetheless we were able to make them smile…and they were able to make us smile even bigger. The kids were excited to play all of the games. ‘Duck duck goose’ (ootkah ootkah goose) was a favorite of all the kids.
The weather has been a tad unpredictable. We woke up to the noise of pouring rain causing us to miss the play we were supposed to see with the kids. Tomorrow we are going to see a movie with the kids IF the rain stops! Pray for sunshine. We are excited to plan for tomorrow and get some much needed rest tonight!
