Day four in Russia!

Day four in Russia began with a morning of sightseeing.  We visited the Sphinx from Egypt, Saint Nicholas’ Cathedral, Cruiser Aurora and the Peter and Paul Fortress.  Though the weather was cool and misty, they were amazing sights and our cameras were clicking away! Our afternoon spent with the kids was another fun blessing.  Everyone enjoyed the lesson of David and Goliath presented by Thomas!  He had the kids act out the showdown.  Goliath stood on top of large gym foam blocks and held a sword, while David was down on his knees with his two sheep on knees and … Continue reading

Like a cool breeze…

An update from the Three Rivers Church Team: The first day of VBS went by like a cool breeze on a summer day…NOT! We were dripping with sweat and dragging our feet along the side of our suitcases full of supplies trying to get to the orphanage. After miles and miles (roughly 1 mile), we were greeted by nothing but smiles, hugs, and … Russian. A Busy Week Ahead!

Our final team for the year is here! The team from Three Rivers Church sends their greetings to friends and family from Saint Petersburg, Russia! Very important things to know when working with kids! In the afternoon each one experienced riding the underground metro, which is exciting and terrifying at … Continue reading

We don’t know where the kids will end up: if a family member will pick them up or if they will get transferred to a closer orphanage. We don’t quite … Continue reading

In the Tiniest of Hands

In many ways it feels like our team has been in Russia for just a few days. We are still learning many things about the culture, the people, and simply how to get from one place to the other.  Each day we are with the kids, they teach me something knew. But in just the two weeks we have been in Russia, the children have opened up their hearts to us. I’ve learned to really treat every day like it is my last with the kids. Each morning we arrive at the center we can never be certain who will … Continue reading
