Our last day in the orphanage was Thursday and the day went well. First thing when we arrived in the morning one of the older teens tugged on all of our heart strings when he asked if we could come back more days and not have Thursday be our last day. It was such a joy to know that we have confirmation that we had built good relationships with the kids and have them want us to continue to spend time with them, but sad as we knew we wouldn’t be able to do so.
The day’s activities were started with a skit, in which we expressed that we were sad to be leaving and we each shared at least one thing that we would miss about our time with them. Ruthie closed out our talk by reminding them that our ultimate goal for our trip and our time spent with them was to show them love and that the love that we shared was from God. She emphasized that God loved each one of them and then Lailani also added that God would listen to them and that all they had to do was talk to him and he would be listening. It was a great way to start our final day with the kids.
Then we spent the day playing games, doing crafts and playing outside with them. We gave each kid a bag of goodies with small toys, candy, socks, etc. We were also to treat them to ice cream, which was such a great surprise for them. Not all of us shed tears, but even those who didn’t were very close to doing so (the tough guys included). We all saw positive change in attitudes and actions in the kids over our two weeks and know that God will continue to work in the lives of these children. We are so grateful that God allowed us to serve these kids and show them love. God is good, all the time; all the time, God is good.
