The last couple of days have been great. We’re really making a lot of connections with these kids. Our favorite part of the day is when we arrive and they scream “Americantsy, Americantsy” and throw their arms around us to greet us. There is a bit of sadness each day as we say “paka” (bye) or “dasvidania” to them. It is hard to believe that tomorrow is our last day of this.
Tomorrow we will spend the morning at the Hermitage Museum, then off to the Transit Center for our good bye party. We have our time there packed full of planned fun and crafts, although it could be like any other day where we just throw it all out the window and let the kids lead us into a new understanding of how to experience life. None of us know what to expect, but we’re sure it will not be easy.
Looking back at our time with the kids, we have had a lot of challenges, joys, heartaches, laughter, excitement and wonder. We have each been stretched in so many ways. And while our time here is coming to an end, we know that there will be a part of us left here in this wonderful country with these fantastic kids, but we will be taking all of experiences, laughter, sights and memories back with us!
Our prayers are with you as you say goodbye to these wonderful kids. The photos you have displayed on the blog clearly indicate the joy that you have shared together. May God watch over you as you travel back. We are so anxious to hear all about your experiences!
With joy and blessings,
Alissa (Meaghan’s mom)
