Many disabled individuals are like prisoners inside their own homes, unable to go outside because of the lack of basic facilities in the towns and cities and most receive little to no education.
Russia’s apartments, buildings, streets, public transportation along with many other public areas are not wheelchair friendly by any means. In many buildings, the front door is too narrow to get through in a wheelchair. The city is filled with steep curbs , flights of steps, cars parked on pavements and a public transport system almost all of which is inaccessible for those with disabilities.
SunErgos partners with a Center for the Disabled Youth in Saint Petersburg. Through summer camps SunErgos Staff and Volunteers share hope with those that have been abandoned by their families and/or rejected by society due to disabilities.
