Frequently Asked Questions

What is SunErgos International?
SunErgos International is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization encouraging people to serve in unity and reconcile more compassionate communities.

Who do we serve?
SunErgos International serves orphans, refugees and the poor through meeting their spiritual, physical, emotional and educational needs.

What is the importance of serving the orphans?
The Hebrew word used for orphan is Yathowm from the root that means lonely and is translated “fatherless”.  The Greek word for orphan is orphanos which is translated as comfortless and fatherless.  The Bible refers to orphans over 40 times and it is stated emphatically that the Lord regards Himself as a father to the fatherless and has a special place in His heart for children who are orphaned.  James uses caring for orphans as an illustration of what is the essence of pure Christianity.

In the Bible children were considered orphaned if they had lost their father.  It is the reason that when orphans are mentioned inevitably, widows are mentioned as well.  The reason for that definition was because men were the financial bedrock of the home.  When they died the family was immediately thrown into crisis and most times into poverty.  Many current assessments of orphans refer to those children who have lost their mother as in most developing countries the mother is the stability of the home.

The current estimate by UNICEF is that there are 163 million orphans worldwide.  These are children who have lost one or both parents or for whatever reason are disenfranchised from the home because of abuse, neglect, poverty, war or other issues.  Most of these children have not heard the gospel and have a very bleak future because of their circumstances.

Where do you work?
SunErgos International began in 2003 with projects in Saint Petersburg, Russia.  Our purpose is to minister to those children who are either orphaned or are at risk of being orphaned.  One of the ways we decide which areas to serve in is determined by researching impoverished communities that have a high number of orphan children or children at risk of being orphaned and assessing how SunErgos International can best meet the communities needs.  Since 2018, SunErgos has expanded their work and partnerships into Spain, Bulgaria and Ukraine.  We will continue to add locations and projects with prayerful exploration and as we receive additional financial commitments.
